Expo Technologies Press Release
Columbia, MD - February 2006 - Expo Technologies is pleased to announce the availability of an exciting new product for blend monitoring. The ePAT 601 Blend Monitor is designed from the ground up to meet the exacting requirements of high potency pharmaceutical products. In partnership with Axsun Technologies, Expo has integrated a high resolution MEMS spectrometer into a robust package designed to withstand the rigors of the manufacturing floor.
The system delivers excellent performance, and at 2 nanometer resolution, will operate at 20 micro absorbance units RMS noise, thus allowing measurement of extremely low levels of active ingredient in powder blends. The instrument operates over 1350-1800 nanometers, extending the typical wavelength coverage of existing process instrumentation, and includes the critical region between 1650 - 1700 nanometers. Lubricants such as magnesium stearate can be easily monitored.
The ePAT 601 is designed and built to cGMP requirements and includes onboard data storage. Because blenders are spinning, wireless communication is employed. A remote PC handles data manipulation and analysis, and a hot-swappable battery module powers the system for a minimum of 4 hours.
Expo offers both off-the-shelf and custom solutions for the critical optical interface. The current solution quickly clamps onto a standard 4 inch window. Expo engineering can work with various blender designs to configure and optimize system performance.
The PAT initiative has provided the impetus to instrument vendors to develop tools that enable pharmaceutical leaders to look at processes in situ, in real time. How these tools behave in a true production environment will determine their usefulness and acceptance. With over 50 years of plant experience, Expo Technologies brings a different mentality to this challenge. Expo is partnering with carefully chosen vendors to provide solutions that perform to exacting standards for both sensitivity and robustness. Expo acknowledges that the business case must rest on a foundation of solid design and system uptime. Process understanding, monitoring, and ultimately process control can only be achieved if pharmaceutical personnel can rely on their equipment.

Expo Technologies' mission is to become the PAT implementation partner of choice for the pharmaceutical industry through rigorous design and manufacture of "Unit Operation Specific" measurement devices utilizing a Project Management Approach. Expo Technologies is dedicated to the business of Pharmaceutical PAT Implementation.
